These living lads and ladies of the lights were there to lend credence to Lionel Richie on the occasion of Valentine’s Day.
As Ritchie looked on, the stars began singing his songs one by one. The MusiCares Foundation that had organized the event was meant to lend financial, moral and healing support to those members of the music industry that were struggling with certain issues.
Each year a person is chosen and normally that person needs no introduction since he or she is so famous. It all began with Lenny Kravitz coming on stage to do a rendition of Lionel’s 80s song titled “Running with the Night”. Then Jimmy Kimmel joked about some of the lyrics of Lionel’s songs and everybody laughed.
Florence Welch later on did a spoof of “Dancing on the Ceiling”. Then Bono of U2 arrived on the scene and said something rather stupid about confusing Lionel Richie with Guy Richie (Madonna’s ex-husband).
The night soon turned into a Six Degrees of Lionel Richie. All sorts of trivia and old times memories of the 80s got recovered from the past treasure chest and displayed before the audience.
Especially such songs as “Lady” and “We are the World” received much tribute. It was indeed a retroactive 80s extravaganza that lit up the entire stage with a reminiscent atmosphere of beauty and bare feelings.
“Endless Love” was followed by the drop dead sexy Rihanna’s singing of “Say You, Say Me”. Rihanna was dressed to kill. Richie looked on with a smile on his face and was thrilled to be honored by such talented people of the present era in time.
According to LATimes, Demi Lovato did a whiskey-voice rendition of “Penny Lover” after clarifying that she knew who Richie was despite being the same age as his daughter.
