The sequel to the 1982 classic will feature original star Harrison Ford with new addition Ryan Gosling.
The official release date of the upcoming sequel ‘Blade Runner 2’ was just announced. The sequel to the 1982 classical will be released on the 12th of January 2018.

The sequel will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and Ridley Scott will serve as a producer. The original film which is considered a classic now was directed by Ridley Scott himself.
But now Scott will take a back seat as Executive Producer while Villeneuve will direct. The sequel will star the original Harrison Ford and the new addition Ryan Gosling.
The news of the release date was announced by Alcon Entertainment on Thursday. Harrison Ford will reprise his role as Rick Deckard, while Ryan Gosling will act as co-star.
Frank Giustra, Bill Carraro and Tim Gamble will also serve as executive producers on the film. Giustra and Gamble are also the heads of Thunderbird Films.
The franchise rights were acquired by Alcon co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson in 2011. Shooting for ‘Blade Runner 2’ will start in July 2016.
Also joining the team is the celebrated cinematographer Roger Deakins. Hampton Fancher, co-writer of the original and Michael Green will write the sequel.
The ‘Blade Runner 2’ will follow the story-line several decades after the end of the original film. Warner Bros will be responsible for endorsing the film domestically in the US. Meanwhile Sony pictures will handle the international rights of ‘Blade Runner2’.

Although at the time of its release the Blade Runner was not a smashing hit it has since then become a cult classic. The success of the Blade Runner may have been dwarfed by the release of E.T. but it had tremendous success in DVD sales.
