The global integration will occur across the whole range of cars offered by Volvo. The new Volvo cars will provide access to Spotify, while eliminating the need for using a smartphone.

Smartphones will no longer be required to control in-car music streaming in Volvo. The integration service is already available in into some Tesla Model S and BMW cars. But Volvo is offering the service in all of its latest model ranges globally.

Drivers will now be able to access their Spotify playlists, artists and albums via the Sensus in-car interface. Even passengers will be able to control the system but they will have to connect their smartphones.

Passengers will have to use the Spotify Connect functionality in Volvo cars. But the drivers will have access to Spotify directly in a Volvo. The Spotify service will be available in the Volvo cars with a Spotify Premium account. However new owners can use the service for free for 30 days.

“Anyone that has used Spotify knows how great it is – you have access to your favourite music, all the time. We are very proud of our unique and custom-made interface for Spotify,” said Björn Annwall, Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service at Volvo Cars.

According to Volvo, they will work closely with Spotify to ensure a natural and familiar user interface. The Spotify integration will be first class in the new Volvo XC90, S90 and V90 models, which will debut in the coming months.

“As before, you can still play music from your Spotify smartphone app in your car, or you can use the in-car app, which will contain all of your favourite playlists, artists and albums. And with Spotify’s ability to deliver extremely high-quality streaming, it has never been a better time to get the most out of the Bowers & Wilkins sound system in our new XC90, S90 and V90,” concluded Björn Annwall.
