It seems that apparently the Oscar execs went against their own rules for fairness and diversity. In an effort to stop the inflow of diverse talent, the bosses of the Academy Awards managed to trip the annual ceremony thoroughly.
Ethnic minorities and female membership of the Oscars were to be doubled by 2020. However, the Oscar heads have managed to botch up the process of inclusivity.

The scandal of the all-white cast of Oscar nominees has led to plans to increase the diversity. The bone of contention is that the body that gives away awards to the finest Hollywood talent has managed to commit a major blunder.
About 30 days ago, a series of substantial changes were made in the Oscars voters’ list. Diversity was the watchword. It had been the second consecutive year in which no black actor or actress had been nominated for an award.
A decade-long limit on the voting abilities of new members has been set. This was supposedly the method implemented to ward off threats from minorities of a boycott of the Academy Awards ceremony this year.
The only problem here is that most of the improvements and measures for a good change will not be implemented as early as this year’s Oscars.
The diversity deficit remains intact for now. It seems that the race question is alive and well in America. Some old timers such as Steven Spielberg has even gone so far as to say that the diversity drive has been spearheaded without sufficient rhyme or reason.
It is just a couple of people playing the race card. The addition of three seats to the 51 member governing board is in the works. This normally occurs in accord with elections. The bylaws of the Oscars are being literally rewritten here.
The ins and outs of the complex process of adding new members on board the governing body are time-consuming and there are several loopholes in the system.
By the time the new rules are instituted, the Oscars 2016 will be over. Such is the irony of the situation at hand. An Oscar-winning director has even said that this whole diversity question is ridiculous.

According to NYTimes, he said that if there were all-black winners in the next two years, then White America will be upset. So what are we supposed to do about it all. It was a tug of war and a case of damned if I do and damned if I don’t.
