The Oscars 2016 predictions include the one about Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. Will he or won’t he win an academy award for Best Director remains a moot point.

Up until now there have been only two moments in history when a director took two back to back academy awards for best director.

One was for the director of Grapes of Wrath and then there was another one. It looks like this year Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will also be grabbing his second Oscar for The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The fact that Alejandro made some very risky decisions while shooting the movie shows in the film’s sequences. The wilderness scenes along with the rigors and hardships are no child’s play.

They require maturity and going the extra mile. What would Leo have felt when he bit into the raw liver for that particularly gross scene in the movie? Or when he forded an icy river?

Then he fought a bear and took shelter in a horse’s carcass. These things are not easy to do. You need courage and an ability to stop yourself from vomiting.

Alejandro has been frank about his movie. He has even gone so far as to say that it ought to have some of its more extreme scenes shown in a temple.

That is the most outrageous of words to come out of the mouth of an experienced director. Alejandro definitely knows the art of shock value.

There have been instances when different movies received awards for Best Picture and Best Director. However, this time around it may be the case that The Revenant will receive both awards for its main actor Leo DiCaprio and director Alejandro.

The harrowing scenes of the movie along with the special method used to shoot the scenes will go a long way in making the movie and its players winners at the Oscars this Sunday.

Whereas two of the contender movies are mainstream Hollywood fare, The Revenant is totally different stuff. It is rough and tough in its makeup. That of course is something audiences like more than wordplay and sappy sentimental sequences.

You get something solid and substantial from The Revenant. It is not like The Revenant is any different from the story of survival shown in many true-to-life movies.

Yet the perseverance and hardiness of Leo is so heartbreakingly hurtful in its immunity to death that you cannot help admiring Alejandro, the man behind The Revenant.
