The new Apple iPhone 7 will be released this Fall. Here everything that is known about the iPhone 7.

In about 6 months Apple will unveil the new iPhone 7. The first rumors are trying to shed light on what Apple's engineers are working on. The iPhone 7 is expected to have a fully redesigned appearance, but it might not be as extreme.

The latest rumors say that Apple will stay close to the iPhone 6 design, but bring several improvements. We will continue to update the "iPhone 7 Exposed report" with new rumors and news. Find out all we know about the iPhone 7 below.

iPhone 7 Design

Apple is expected to make the backside of the iPhone 7 flush again like the iPhone 5 was. The nasty protruding camera ring will be gone. This is supposed to go along side with the iPhone 7 becoming one millimeter thinner. The iPhone 7 is rumored to measure 6.1mm, while the iPhone 7 Plus would come in at 6.3mm. A flush surface is more important than shedding another 1mm in thickness, but Apple is obsessed with making the iPhone thinner every design iteration.

Alleged iPhone 7 cases suggest that the iPhone 7 is closely resembling the iPhone 6S design. The cases if real confirm stereo speakers and the removal of the headphone jack. A new leak showing the rear shell of the iPhone 7 leaked on March 13, confirming what the iPhone 7 cases tell us.

Already rumored for the iPhone 6S was a flush front surface with the home button disappearing into the screen. This is again likely not happening in the iPhone 7. Apple is also expected to improve the insulation gaps to make them less disturbing. Overall the look is supposed to be similar to the iPhone 6.

iPhone 7 Screen

There are no rumors yet about improvements on the iPhone screen. OLED screens in iPhones are rumored to becoming a reality earliest in 2017. Another rumor report says that Apple is introducing a 5.8-inch OLED display by 2018. Apple introduced 3D Touch in the iPhone 6S. It is possible that Apple makes improvements for 3D Touch.

iPhone 7 CPU

The iPhone 7 is expected to be run on a new A10 CPU. Apple's new A10 chip is supposed to be made exclusively by TMSC and not Samsung. The A10 is supposed to be based on TMSC's 16nm technology. Apple is increasing CPU performance with each new iPhone release. The A10 will make the new iPhone again more powerful, which is great for games and would be interesting for Virtual Reality apps. Apple has though no answer to Samsung's Gear VR or LG's G5 VR solutions yet.

iPhone 7 Camera

The iPhone 7 camera could make the biggest leap according to rumors. Apple is supposed to at least release one new iPhone 7 Plus model with dual camera lens system. The dual camera system would be powered by technology Apple got via the Linx camera tech firm last year. The solution uses algorithms that combine the data of the two cameras into one high quality photo. The other iPhone 7 models would only get incremental improved camera systems.

On March 15 photos of the alleged iPhone 7 Dual Camera module surfaced again.

iPhone 7 Battery

The battery life on iPhones has been criticized now for several years. Especially because Apple makes new iPhones thinner, instead of adding a bigger battery. The iPhone 7 is supposed to bring improvements for battery life. One measure is supposed extended EMI shielding to more components inside the iPhone 7.

iPhone 7 Headphone Jack

The iPhone 7 is rumored to drop the 3.5mm headphone jack. It is just a rumor, but Apple fans are already up in arms. No headphone jack means that standard wired earphones will not work with the iPhone 7. Either there is going to be an adapter via the Lightning port, or users have to adopt wireless headphones or earbuds. Incidentally Apple is rumored to release wireless earbuds along with the iPhone 7.

If Apple removes the headphone jack, the company should bundle wireless earbuds for free with the iPhone 7. To ship an iPhone without earbuds would be a big disappointment and Apple would risk losing a lot of sales. Another possibility is that the headphone jack remain in the standard iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and only the iPhone 7 Pro would not have it.

iPhone 7 Speakers

The iPhone 7 speaker are rumored to go finally stereo. Other smartphones have stereo speakers already or even premium sound design like the LG G5 that features B&O technology

iPhone 7 Waterproof

If you drop your iPhone 6 into the pool, it is likely suffering a water damage. It might survive the bath, but needs special treatment. The new Samsung Galaxy S7 is extended waterproof qualities. Sony is advertising since a while now a water proof design in its smartphones. The latest rumors though say that Apple is again not waterproofing the iPhone 7. Why Sony and Samsung can do this and Apple is not, is not understandable.

iPhone 7 LTE Modem

Intel is rumored to manufacture up to 30% of the iPhone 7 modems, taking away from Qualcomm's business. The iPhone 7 will have an advanced LTE modem like the iPhone 6S, but with improved performance and battery efficiency.

iPhone 7 Model Line-Up

Apple is supposed to release three new iPhone 7 models. An iPhone 7 with 4.7-inch screen, an iPhone 7 Plus with 5.5-inch screen and an iPhone 7 Pro with 5.5-inch screen and Dual Camera System. Will Apple finally increase the base storage configuration to 32GB? It would be about time. Apple is expected to keep the iPhone 7 pricing the same as for the iPhone 6S. Apple is under criticism for still offering a 16GB iPhone 6S at the entry price. Memory prices have dropped rapidly in recent years. There is no financial barrier besides margin greed to not increase the storage and maintain the current pricing.

Apple is expected to keep the current color line-up for the iPhone 7, which includes silver, gold, space grey and rose gold. The colors would though be one of the easiest things to change to make the iPhone 7 more different from the current model.

iPhone 7 Release & Announcement

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 7 at a media event in September. Last year Apple introduced the iPhone 6S on September 9 and the new iPhone started to ship on September 25. Pre-order of the new iPhone began on September 12. There is no reason to believe Apple would change that schedule significantly for the iPhone 7.

Keeping with the days of the week from last year, the Apple iPhone 7 event will take place on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. The iPhone 7 pre-order date will Saturday, September 10th. The iPhone 7 shipping will begin based on keeping in sync with last year on Friday September 23, 2016.
