Google Makes Another Mobile Friendly Ranking Update in May

The search giant announced another change in the ranking of mobile results on March 16.

Google announced today a new change to the mobile-friendly search ranking. Google started using mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal on mobile searches last year.

Beginning in May, Google will start rolling out an update to mobile search results that increases the effect of the ranking signal to help Google users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly.

Google says that if you have already made your site mobile-friendly your site is not impacted by the update. This

Google also says in the announcement that the intent of the search query is still a very strong signal. Meaning that even if a page with high quality content is not mobile-friendly, it could still rank well if it has great, relevant content. This is weakens again the above statement.

At this point most webmasters who are serious about their online activities have made their site mobile friendly or even support the new Google AMP initiative. Google started to feature AMP enabled pages last month in special preferred carousel widgets.
