The new small iPhone would be ideal for the outdoors with enhanced water resistance.

I have killed an iPhone already by keeping it in a pant pocket while it rained. I did the whole put it in a bag of rice thing, but the iPhone was gone. While Sony and Samsung offer water resistant smartphones, Apple has not done so. The iPhone SE to be unveiled on March 21 could be the first water resistant iPhone.

The new Samsung Galaxy S7 is water-resistant according to the IP68 rating. IP86 means that the phone is water resistant up to 5 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The Galaxy S7 survives the common drop into the toilet and slip into bathtub or pool. This is all Apple has to do for the iPhone SE.

The iPhone SE does not need to be an under water camera. This is not a everyday activity. The iPhone SE should withstand accidents involving water and withstand the elements while outdoors.

The iPhone SE with its 4-inch screen is deal for sports. My iPhone 6S always feels like a burden to take with me on runs. The iPhone 5S I killed with rain was much better to carry in sportswear. A water resistant iPhone SE would have a big appeal for outdoor enthusiasts.

So far the iPhone SE has not been rumored to be water proof. The iPhone SE is reportedly running on the same hardware as the iPhone 6S and looks like the classic iPhone 5S with minor design changes.

The Apple Media Event on March 21 at the Apple headquarters in Cupertino begins at 10am PDT. There will be a live online stream available of the event. Apple is expected to unveil the 4-inch iPhone SE, a new small iPad Pro and new Apple Watch models. Read the latest iPhone SE News.
