Viggo Mortensen reprises a hippie similar role looking out for his children in the trailer for the new indie drama Captain Fantastic.

Viggo Mortensen has become a name that is usually associated with more action and adventure based roles. His roles in Lord of the Rings and Eastern Promises have earned him a tough guy persona that is hard to shake off.

Realizing that, he has become very selective about the roles that he has undertaken. So imagine the surprise when the audience found out that he is playing the role of a Pastoral Utopian, raising his children in secluded forests among song and dance.

Yes, in this Matt Ross drama, Mortensen stars as a father of six children that he is raising with his beliefs and rules without any contact with the outside world.

The film was showcased at the Sundance Film Festival and gathered somewhat mixed reviews but the people who swore by it said that the movie had depths to offer.

The audience got their first look at the movie in a recent trailer that was released. It features all the children and Mortensen’s character enjoying in the wilderness.

His wife who was taken ill was shifted to the city and dies. He is threatened by his father in law and decides to avoid the funeral but they want to see her for the last time.

He tells them to brace themselves as it is their first real test and head to the city. The children find everything new, strange and sometimes contrary to what they have grown up believing.

The civilized world argues Mortensen’s methods of raising the children and how they are going to be unprepared for the world. A threat of a custody battles lingers and they close ranks to stay a family.

The first thing that comes to mind when reading the title is some kind of a superhero movie and we are yet to see whether it is more human.

The movie also stars Frank Langella, George MacKay, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Zahn, Ann Dowd, Samantha Isler, Annalise Basso, Nicholas Hamilton, Charlie Shotwell, and Shree Crooks. It was produced by Lynette Howell Taylor, Jamie Patricof, Shivani Rawat and Monica Levinson.

Captain Fantastic is currently playing at the Cannes Film Festival and then hits U.S. theatres July 8.
