The Met Gala 2016 is one of the biggest society events of the year and Apple is a big sponsor.

The theme for the 2016 Met Gala was “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York announced last fall that Apple will be a sponsor and that Apple's design hero Jonathan Ivy is co-chairing the Met Gala 2016.

Apple CEO Tim Cook trumped Jonathan Ivy with bringing Steve Jobs's widow Laurene Powell Jobs to the Met Gala 2016. Jony Ivy also dressed to look dapper for the Met Gala 2016, but Tim Cook won with Powell Jobs. The 52-year-old Laurene Powell looked great on the red carpet. See the photos in the gallery below.

So there was bit of Steve Jobs in the room at the Met Gala. Steve Jobs died of cancer almost 5 years ago. Apple continued to grow under the lead of Tim Cook. Now though he might face his biggest challenge to led Apple to new heights after the first quarterly revenue decline in over a decade. The iPhone has lost steam.

The Met Gala was known as the Costume Institute Gala and also referred to as the Met Ball. It is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. The Met Gala is also marking the opening of the 2016 fashion exhibit.
