An alleged iPhone 7 circuit board shows an 3.5mm audio jack.

The iPhone 7 is rumored to have no 3.5mm audio jack. This would enable Apple to make the iPhone 7 thinner and have still more room for the battery. An alleged iPhone 7 circuit board that surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo shows a 3.5mm audio jack like on the previous iPhones.

The leaked part is from an iPhone 7. There is still a chance that the larger iPhone 7 Plus or the rumored iPhone 7 Pro have no audio jack. The leaked iPhone 7 part could be legit as it is different from the iPhone 6S circuit board. The difference are no proof, but the timing is about right to see the first leaked iPhone 7 parts. Images of an alleged iPhone 7 battery also surfaced this week.

In case Apple drops the 3.5mm audio port, only wireless and Lightning headset would work. Lightning headsets are already on the market making use of the loss less digital audio connectivity over the Lightning connector like the new Radius HP-NH 11 earbuds.

The iPhone 7 is expected to be unveiled in September. Apple is in a tough spot as iPhone sales declined. The iPhone 7 needs to be successful. The rumors and alleged leaks point towards only minor design changes, which led to comments by analysts that the iPhone 7 might be "boring" and would not sell well.
