The Ghostbusters remake trailer is kind of a mess, everyone knows that. It is the most disliked trailer of all time on YouTube - though a lot of that is because it is an all-female cast and trolls will be trolls. However, one of the stars from the movie, Melissa McCarthy, does admit that the trailer is a bit "confusing."

Social media has always been after the Paul Freig reboot of the beloved 1980s movie.

When she appears on The Johnjay & Rich Show, McCarthy said that the movie, which also stars Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, is far better than the trailer makes it look. The opening moments of the trailer start with a text message that says, “30 years ago, four scientists saved New York. This summer, a new team will answer the call.”

It opened up the question: is this new outing a reboot or a follow up to the movie?

In fact, according to Den of Geek, even McCarthy, herself found this to be “very confusing.” As she explains to the show’s earnestly confused host on the film’s actual status:

"It's a reboot [not a remake]. I know it's weird that they said ‘30 years ago,’ because in this movie it's like the first one didn't happen. It's just a great story but told totally differently. It's the same thing, it’s four unlikely heroes, it's in New York City, ghosts are taking over. It's the same classic story, but it's not a '30 years later.' The trailer says ’30 years later,’ which I didn’t quite get, myself. But, it’s dependent on the first one."

Some people are never going to like the reboot because it isn't what we are used to seeing. However, the real problem is that people are annoyed with the idea of putting women into these roles - and those people are likely to be those that make up the large majority of the downvotes.

Melissa McCarthy continue: "Believe me, the question was asked. I think it's very confusing. But then everyone said, 'We don't care what you think.'"

It is too early to predict how Ghostbusters will be, however, it is likely that a lot of people will go to see it.

Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15 - and right before that, the original Ghostbusters will go into theaters for a short time.
