Apple Music Student Membership Appears on Apple Store
Apple Music Students

Apple offers 50% discount on an Apple Music subscription for students. The offer is live in Australia.

Apple is offering students a 50% discount on the Apple Music membership. The Apple Music Student membership is already available in the Australian Apple online store. It is expected that Apple will offer the Apple Music subscription for students in the United States and Europe today as well.

In Australia the regular individual Apple Music membership is $11.99 AUD. Students only pay $5.99 per month after the free three month trial. US students will be able to get Apple Music for $4.99 USD.

Students need to verify their status via UNiDAYS. The student subscription purchasing is directly redirecting to UNiDAYS from iTunes.

The links are not fully working yet. The details of the Apple Music Student membership will be available in an unreleased support document. Update: The support document has been released with all Apple Music Student Membership details.

The above page in iTunes is available under this link. Keeping an eye on these links, will help to become one of the first Apple Music student subscribers.

I assume that current Apple Music members that are students can reduce their monthly by verifying with UNiDAYS.

The main way to verify your student status with UNiDAYS is via the email address the school or university has assigned you. UNiDAYS works with brands like ASOS, Levi's, and Ann Taylor to offer students special pricing. UNiDAYS was founded in 2011.

UNiDAYS is available in UK, Ireland, US, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and Denmark. It is likely that other countries will not yet be able to get a discounted Apple Music student membership.

Apple Music is on a solid growth path, but is not the leader yet. Spotify is able to fight off Apple Music. Since the launch last year, Apple managed to grow the paid subscriber number to 13 million. Spotify has about 30 million. It took Apple to go from 11 to 13 million about 2 months. At this pace it will take Apple almost two years to reach Spotify's 30 million. In 2 years Spotify's subscriber number will be significantly higher.

The student push will likely help Apple to accelerate subscriber growth. $4.99 is a great deal, but of course Spotify already offers the same student discount.
