Captain America: Civil War Review

Captain America Civil War enjoys good reviews from most critics and the entire team gets praised for their work.

It’s the Avengers movie that people expected instead of Age of Ultron, say critics. Captain America Civil War has been released on multiple international platforms and the critics have enjoyed their exclusive screenings to give out their reviews before the film will have its official release.

The reason that Captain America Civil War is not Avengers is that it does not have all the Avengers. Hulk and Thor went their own paths in Avengers Age of Ultron and we will see them return in the Avengers Infinity Wars.

So with the remaining band of Avengers including Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rogers/ Captain America, Natalie Romanoff/Black Widow and Hawkeye team up with potential Avengers to declare a civil war.

Why is this war being deemed civil might you ask?

This war is being fought among the Avengers namely between Captain America and Iron Man and the rest just fall in line with whom they think is right. We see that UN is showing our superheroes all the destruction and devastation that their showdown with the villains have caused.

The latest being in Serbia and ask our heroes to sign a petition which will make them answerable to the UN forces. While Stark who has been touting on unchecked power in the Iron Man trilogy and Age of Ultron, completely agrees to sign the petition, Cap and his pal Sam Wilson are soldiers who have taken orders in the past and know the consequences of political agendas threatening to dictate their actions.

This makes them stand against the Serkovia Petition and causes a rift between the two Avengers which lead the others to choose sides against each other according to how they view the petition. In an already brewing situation, Cap’s old buddy, Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier plays the role of a catalyst which makes them engage in an all-out fight where Cap wants to redeem Bucky while the Avengers including Black Widow try to put him down.

In a very persuasive argument, Bucky might be the only chip on his shoulder that makes his intentions doubtful. Enter Baron Zemo who adds fuel to the fire to make an epic showdown.

Many critics are arguing that the movie has been made along the same theme that was dominant in Batman vs. Superman Dawn of Justice but it is arguable that Captain America movies have always highlighted the bureaucratic and political agendas with the implication of the use of AI.

This film was better in a way that we saw an internal conflict accentuated with strong opinions and then fuelled up with outside agents present in the movie by the appearance of new characters including Black Panther and Spider-Man. Many critics will believe that every character in the movie could be symbolic and literal at the same time.

The actors reprising their roles have been praised for their effortless acting once more. Robert Downey Jr. played his role as Stark beautifully once more and this time he engaged the audience with a darker and intense side of Tony.

Chris Evan still remains the perfect embodiment of the Captain and according to the critics, Marvel has the fullest grasp on Captain’s character than any other. Scarlett Johnson dominated every scene once again while Paul Rudd, Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen have been praised for their supporting roles and Anthony Mackie credited with taking care of the comic relief department as well.

However, the two standout performance that everyone is praising are Chadwick Boseman as Black Panther and Tom Holland as Spider Man. Boseman has been praised for playing the Black Panther so well that he has been able to create anticipation for the character’s stand-alone movie scheduled to release soon and Tom Holland has been praised for his acting as well. Despite being the youngest on the cast, he has been called the perfect embodiment of Peter Parker and just like how fans always imagined him.

The critics have praised the plot line while cleverly concealing the climax of the movie. The direction efforts of Joe and Anthony Russo have been highly praised saying that the brother anticipated everything that the people were expecting from the movie and gave it to the audience.

Both writers, Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have also been praised for writing what can be deemed as a ‘flawless and engaging’ script with hardly anything wrong with it. The movie is able to strike every emotional cord with a little comedy thrown in here and there to make it a must-see in 2016.

The fighting scenes have been praised as exciting, escalating and enthralling meanwhile Kenneth Turan of LA Times did complain that the movie felt a bit exclusionary since there are a few jokes and nuances of the character only a fan who has seen all other movies will be able to get. Considering that the movie is a bridge between the previous movies and the upcoming Avengers movies, it has served as an entertaining and engaging movie for all fans to see.
