The Nikola Motor Company came out of stealth mode earlier this week with its massive 6 wheel, 2,000hp electric semi-truck.
We reported as one of the first media outlets about the Salt Lake City based Nikola Motor Company. The giant Nikola One electric truck has gotten the most attention. The Nikola One truck has 2,000 hp and a 1,200 miles range. It carries a huge 320kWh battery that power the 6x6 electric drive. The Nikola One has regenerative braking and a gas turbine that charges the batteries.

Nikola shared an image of the trucks battery packs. 18,650 cells are welded together to make up the 320kWh capacity.
The electric vehicle startup also introduced an all inclusive leasing deal for the Nikola One truck. The $5,000 a month leasing fee includes unlimited miles, unlimited fuel, warranty and maintenance.
Free fuel is important as the truck is recharging the batteries on the go with a natural gas fueled turbine generating 400 kilowatts.
Customers can for no additional cost trade-in for a new Nikola One every 72 months or 1,000,000 miles, whichever comes first. Whether you drive 8,000 miles per month solo or 16,000 miles per month as a team, your fuel cost is covered by Nikola. Tax, tile and license not included.
Sounds like a really great deal. The biggest thing though is how different a Nikola One truck will be to drive. The 6x6 electric truck has 2,000hp delivering double the torque of a 500hp Diesel truck.
The Nikola One can drive up a hill with 6% ascent with 65mph top speed. The Diesel trucks reach 40mph at most. The acceleration under load from 0 to 60mph is 30 seconds compared to 1 minute says the company.

The Nikola One truck not only shines through its electric drive performance it also has advanced safety features including torque vectoring. Torque vectoring is one of the most advanced features for heavy duty trucking. It allows control of each wheel independently through drive-by-wire. By communicating with the motors up to 30 times a second, the speed of each wheel can be adjusted while cornering, maneuvering, accelerating and braking.
