The Sony PS4 sold more than 40 million units announced Sony.
Sony announced today that Japanese consumer electronics company has cumulatively sold through more than 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles to consumers worldwide as of May 22, 2016.

The PS4 is the fastest selling PlayStation in the history of the console.

Microsoft has said early this year that the company sold 20 million Xbox One consoles. Sony destroys Microsoft with double the number of sold consoles. Nintendo has sold 12.8 million Wii U consoles as of March 2016. It is save to say that this iteration of home video console wars goes to Sony.
Sony is rumored to release a new more powerful Sony PlayStation 4K Neo this fall. If this rumor turns out to be true remains to still be seen. Microsoft is rumored to unveil a new powerful Xbox in 2017 catering to Virtual Reality.

The next battle ground in video game console wars will be about virtual reality. Sony has lined itself up very well with the PlayStation VR headset. A new VR focused PS4 would accelerate the adoption and putting pressure on the PC VR camp.
