It appears ZeroTech saw the flashy Zero Zero Robotics startup raising $25 million and decided that they have the skills to make a selfie drone in no time. From the specifications and features, the ZeroTech Dobby is more versatile than the Hover Camera. The Hover Camera is solely relying on visual position tracking. The Dobby has in addition to that GPS and GLONASS position tracking. GPS allows for instance the Dobby to follow a given flight path.
Both selfie drones automatically hover and let go and they can automatically follow you or your pet around. I am pretty sure your get will be excited about the prospect of a drone following it around.
The Dobby and the Hover Camera carry a 13MP camera capable of recording 4K video. Both stream video via Wi-Fi to a smartphone. A smartphone app is used to control the drones. The Dobby also reacts to voice commands and gestures.
The industrial design on the Hover camera is more advanced. The four rotors are caged inside a carbon fiber housing. The Dobby has its rotors out in the free. Both feature a folding design. The Dobby appears to be much smaller. We could not find official measurements yet from the Hover Camera. The Dobby is also 40g lighter than the Hover Camera.
Zero Zero Robotics said that the price of the Hover Camera will be below $600. They will have to rethink that price as the Dobby will retail for $290. It is already listed at a couple Chinese gadget export stores for $349.
The Hover Camera is in closed beta right now and is supposed to ship still this summer. The Dobby appears to ship soon. Based on the feature set the Dobby seems the better selfie drone. It will come down to hands on reviews of both selfie drones to find out which one is best.
