Pixar Introduces a Lesbian Couple in Finding Dory Trailer

Pixar and Disney take the next step by showing a lesbian couple for a brief moment in the trailer of Finding Dory.

One of the top Twitter trends in the past few weeks have been dedicated to Disney to ask them to give two of the iconic characters a same sex romantic partner.

Elsa from Frozen was the first contender. People took to Twitter to ask Disney to give Elsa a girlfriend. A demand that was backed by Idina Menzel who voices Elsa in the movie.

The next trend to take over was the demand to give Captain America/Steve Rogers a boyfriend. This time they were more specific with memes and clips hinting at Bucky Barnes.

Many would say that Disney is hesitant in making same sex couples because they call themselves a family entertainment company and they like to keep a steady and straightforward stance about relationships on screen.

Their animation counterpart Pixar however has always been candid and experimenting in their ventures. The Pixar animation studios have always been ready to introduce humor and hint adult content in the animation movies. The trick might be to do it subtly.

This is what they seemed to have done in the brand new trailer of the upcoming sequel to Finding Nemo, Finding Dory in which Ellen DeGeneres’ amnesic Dory is lost.

Pixar has included a clip in the trailer in which there is a scene where Hank the Octopus, voiced Ed O'Neill, dressed as a baby in a carriage. A couple comes closer to interact with the baby and is disturbed by what they see.

Many people wouldn’t have paid enough attention but those who did could see that the couple was actually two women. A lesbian couple. The might not be the main characters in the movie and might appear only once but they are there.

This might be the Pixar genius that Disney needs to pick up on. Introducing a same sex couple for a main character might not be easy but just introducing the idea into the movies might let them ease up.
