Chris Evans defends Top Gear against the harsh critics and loss of nearly a million viewers saying that the facts say that the show is a hit.
For the past 39 years, Top Gear has been one of the top entertaining shows in Britain and it was taken to new heights by its former hosts, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. The trio did shows like they were born to do so and along with the Stig, there was a natural harmony in the show until Hammond threw a punch in it.

The host reportedly punched the producer, cussing at him for some order in delivery issues after a long day of shooting which caused the show to disintegrate and the hosts quit the show or they were let go, the details are fuzzy but DJ Chris Evans took over the show along with former Friends’ star Matt LeBlanc who became the first non-Brit to host the show.
The duo tried to build up the show through their social media and Evans went so far as to reckon that they will have five million viewers to the show. The show started and it suddenly turned to a disappointment for a lot of people, according to DailyMail.
Reportedly, the show was watched by 4.7 million viewers compared to the 5.3 million viewers that watched the last episode of the series which Hammond, Clarkson and May hosted.
Evans posted on his Twitter that the show was a success in a succession of posts which stated that; The new Top Gear is a hit. OFFICIALLY. 23% audience share. 12% MORE than the opening episode of the last series. These are the FACTS. Top Gear audience grew throughout the hour. FACT. Won its slot. FACT. Still number one on iPlayer. FACT. These are THE FACTS folks.
Meanwhile the tweets from the fans might explain how they felt about the show. While a lot of audience did turn on their TV to watch the show, most of them tuned off and called Evans Mr. Shouty and LeBlanc Wooden and hammered.
The show quality was seriously criticized due to bad jokes and flashy presentation. The only thing that seemed to be right was the parts with car where LeBlanc outperformed Evans.
Meanwhile a lot of audiences expressed that they would be turning to see Hammond, Clarkson and May in their series The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime.
