The South Korean consumer electronics maker has created an innovation fountain inside the company.
Innovation management inside large corporation is usually a huge problem. Not for Samsung. The Samsung C-Lab has churned 130 innovations since it was created 3 years ago. 40 of these projects are in the process of commercialization. This means almost one-third of the ideas are good enough to go to market.

Today Samsung announced to spin-off 5 of these projects into independent companies including the WELT smart belt. In February, Samsung has spun of the first C-Lab company. Salted Venture develops the smart shoes IoFIT.
The five Samsung C-Lab spin-offs are planning to introduce their products in the market during the second half of 2016.
Samsung shows off its current C-Lab projects at trade shows including MWC and CES. The WELT smart belt has been unveiled at the CES 2016. The WELT is a smart wearable healthcare belt that looks like a normal belt, thus offering consumers a more discreet way of using smart sensor technology to monitor their health.
The WELT belt is capable of recording the user’s waist size, eating habits and the number of steps taken, as well as time spent sitting down. It then sends this data to a specially-designed app for analysis, and the production of a range of personalized healthcare and weight management plans.
The other four Samsung C-Lab spin-offs have not been announced yet. They are reportedly going to be revealed on Wednesday. Last week we covered the Finger-to-Ear calling wristband developed by C-Lab spin-off Innomdle Lab. We assume they are part of the 5 C-Lab spin-off Samsung is going to announce.
