John Boyega Cast as Lead in Pacific Rim 2

Legendary and Guillermo Del Toro are happy to welcome Star Wars actor John Boyega as the new lead in the sequel of Pacific Rim.

Although it might not have done so well on the US box office with $411 million, it was a hit around the world. The Idris Elba, Charlie Hunman and Rinko Kikuchi was a big hit in different parts of the world including China. This worldwide success has led Legendary and Universal to work on a sequel along with creator Guillermo Del Toro. 

While rumours are that Elba is not returning to reprise his role as Stacker Pentecost, confirmations have been made that John Boyega will be starring as the lead in Pacific Rim 2.

John Boyega who is a fresh talent from his role in Star Wars Episode VII, is thrilled to be on the project. Guillermo Del Toro, who will produce the new film after directing the first one said that he is very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox.

He said that Pacific Rim is a multicultural, multi-layered world that strives to save the world. Boyega is an excellent leading man to take on the franchise.

“I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox,” said Pacific Rim co-creator Guillermo Del Toro, according to EW. “The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multi-layered world.”

Boyega himself will be getting on in the action as he described in an Instagram post. He will be co-producing the film with Femi Oguns through his shingle Upper Room Productions. 

The film will start shooting later this year. It is set to be directed by Steven S. DeKnight. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and Del Toro will produce the action adventure film. Cale Boyter is executive producer. The picture is a beach head project for Legendary, under the leadership of Parent. 

This is another movie in Boyega’s schedule. He is set to star with Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in The Circle and later in the Episode VIII of Star Wars.
