The latest evidence points to running with poor footwear and ill-advised plans as injurious to your health.

Many think that putting on their Nike joggers and going out for a run is the ideal way of shedding the pounds. Such is not necessarily the case at all. For one thing, you may incur an injury or two depending on the quality of your footwear or the excessive strenuousness of your exercise regimen.

At least, 50% of those who take up running injure themselves due to trainers that look flashy while being uncomfortable to wear.

For a person who regularly runs 365 days a year, he or she will get injured for 26 of these days per year. Once runners start ignoring their foot or leg pain, they are headed for trouble.

13% of them even set themselves up for giving up running in the long term due to such extreme injuries that they leave them a victim to chronic pain.

Then there are those die-hard running freaks who continue through thick and thin till they contract nerve damage, knee problems and muscular strains. This is a disaster in the making.

At least two thirds of runners do not even care to change their shoes despite the fact that they are falling apart at the seams. At least half of runners also continue to wear the same shoes even if they are getting more and more uncomfortable with the passage of time.

Some consider their old worn-out running shoes to be lucky for them and hence a souvenir they have to keep. There are those who want to preserve their shoes since they are so trendy and cost a ton of cash.

There are heel and arch problems aplenty thanks to the running epidemic that has started in conjunction with the obesity epidemic, according to DailyMail

The mechanics of running means that the feet, shinbones and thighs undergo a lot of pounding on the pavement. Over time this paves the way for a host of problems.

There is after all only so much stress that the human body can take from all that strain and repetitive pounding. Many runners ultimately find themselves unable to do any exercise whatsoever. The right footwear can work miracles yet there is also the factor of moderation in running.

The legs and feet need rest intervals between running sessions. While if the shoe fits we ought to wear it, we also need to take it easy once in a while. Otherwise pulled calf muscles and shin splints will be the order of the day.
