WWDC 2016 Is Just Appetizer for Fall says Gene Munster

The Apple developer conference is upon us. An analyst weighs in.

Siri says that she is "So excited about WWDC." The expectations are toned down in general though. The Apple WWDC 2016 is just an appetizer for the Fall announcement says Gene Munster, analyst at Piper Jaffray, in a research note according to Barron's.

The WWDC keynote will be all about incremental updates of Apple's operating systems including iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS. Siri will play a central role with new features and integration into OS X. There will be no new hardware announcements or any entirely new product.

The big hardware announcements will be in fall. Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone 7 and the Apple Watch 2. Gene Munster believes that the Apple Watch 2 will be untethered from the iPhone and have better battery and hardware.

The number and depths of new software updates will likely be impressive, but the consumers and also investors are much more excited about new Apple products.

Gene Munster Apple stock price target is $153. He seems to be very optimistic about the new iPhone 7 despite Apple not dramatically changing it compared to the iPhone 6S. Leaks and rumors hint at Apple keeping the design mostly from the iPhone 6S and only improve the ugly antenna lines in the iPhone 7. The dual camera and performance enhancements are the corroborated highlights of the iPhone 7.

The WWDC 2016 keynote kicks off at 10am PDT. The keynote will be streamed live online on the Apple site.
