These groups also dissed any environmental rules and regulations as mere bosh and tosh. According to Guardian, the funds of the large coal mining company went to trade groups, various lobbies, industrial posses and conservative thinktanks that refused to recognize the changing times we are living through.
All these revelations came out in a court in May. The coal company even managed to fund some political candidates. Republicans were preferred over the Democrats with a vengeance.
Peabody Energy was already known for not being very sympathetic to any climate change causes. Yet now with this new evidence emerging of the extent of its iniquity, it seems that the company is on tenterhooks. It had filed for bankruptcy protection last April too. This disclosure had an even more enervating effect on the company’s reputation.
Cheap natural gas is the alternative to the coal of Peabody Energy. Environmental groups had some inkling of the shady business that Peabody Energy was engaging in, but they were hardly ready for the shocking extent of its involvement in climate change denial.
The large coal company had funded several groups which fought tooth and nail against President Obama’s measures to slash the rates of greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, the group of culprits were most vocal in their climate change denial.
Such blatant partialism to climate change deniers is absolutely shocking. It reeks of the worst ignorance on the part of both Peabody Energy and the groups it covertly funded for so long.
One of the groups that got funding from Peabody Energy was the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change. It presented skewed and twisted data that tried to prove that carbon emissions were the elixir of life. Some scientists who are renegades and climate change deniers also figure on the list of beneficiaries.

The Washington lobbyist Richard Berman also happens to be one of the men receiving cold hard cash from Peabody Energy. Such machinations as proving that carbon dioxide is necessary for life were among the tools used by these climate change deniers. The coal company seems to have financed all the hate groups that were against environmentalists and the environmental movement for so long.
