According to a report from the Asian supply chain, Apple has placed higher-than-expected component orders for the Apple Watch 2.
The first Apple Watch has had solid sales. It is not a runaway success, but analysts estimate that Apple sold 12 million Apple Watches in the first year. This is many millions more than any other full featured smartwatch has sold.

A new report from the Asian supply chain suggests that Apple is psyched about the Apple Watch 2. According to sources, orders for the new Apple Watch 2 have been higher-than-expected. "Judging from the orders, about two million units of the new Apple Watch could be shipped monthly," claim Digitimes' sources.
This would mean that Apple estimates to double the sales volume with the Apple Watch 2 to about 24 million annually.
The Apple Watch 2 is rumored to be thinner and have its own SIM card to connect to the mobile network without the iPhone. It could also have its own GPS sensor.
Apple has unveiled this week the watchOS 3 with many improvements including instant app loading. The new release shows that the hardware inside the Apple Watch is solid, but the operating system was not optimized. The new watchOS 3 will be released along with the new Apple Watch 2.
