OnePlus is set to establish itself as a premium smartphone selling brand with the launch of its 2016 flagship phone, OnePlus 3. Competitors should start looking out for OnePlus 3 as it’s ready to offer a lot more at a lower price. The new phone by OnePlus is ready to go heads on with iPhone and HTC as the design is a hybrid of the designs for iPhone 6 and HTC 10.

It also challenges Samsung as it is thinner than the Galaxy S7, measuring 7.3 mm in thickness. The phone is attractive to look at and is available in 2 colors, soft gold and graphite. And to add icing on the cake, it’s much cheaper than its rivals. The phone can be classified as a phablet mainly due to its 5.5 inch AMOLED screen which is full HD, but doesn’t quite measure up to the resolution being offered by similar Android phones.
The phone has a Snapdragon CPU and comes with whooping 6GB RAM and 64 GB of storage space, but with no option for a microSD card. OnePlus is making big claims when it comes to battery charging based on the Dash Charge technology. It is promising that your phone will charge up to 60% in half an hour and will give you 7 hours of battery time during which you can watch HD videos, although we shouldn’t get overly excited because a lot of other companies that made similar claims fell short.
Although we won’t have to worry about our phones heating up while charging, thanks to Dash Charge. One of the most striking things about the phone will be its camera. With a 16MP back camera and a whole bunch of manual controls which make taking a picture a personalized experience, OnePlus is on the right track. The phone has its own modified version of OxygenOS preinstalled and it also supports a USB-C connection. It has kept the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack unlike Motorola, who chose the riskier option of forgoing it completely.

But the sweet spot remains the price. It’s a lot cheaper than all other phones offering similar specifications and features. It is priced at just $399. OnePlus’s strategy of offering similar specs and deigns to what is being offered in the market but at a lower price is smart, but there is a long way to go. Let’s hope that OnePlus 3 gives it the big break that OnePlus has been waiting for.
