By creating a robot from scratch, the machine will be thoroughly tested which is a good thing in the long run. How a machine is able to perform ordinary activities is what is at stake here.
The company proposes to take a robot off the rack and modify it so that it is capable of handling housework. The field of robotics is an excellent gauging ground for most of the barriers in artificial intelligence. OpenAI will make sure that the robots retain their subservience as machines under men.
It will be ensured that they don’t go wild one day and start rebelling against their human masters. The very goals and survival of humanity are what matter in the final analysis.
The foundation of OpenAI was laid last year and it had an input of a billion dollars. This was contributed by several big names in Silicon Valley. Besides Altman and Musk, these included Jessica Livingston and Peter Thiel.
OpenAI also plans to make “chatbots” which are highly sophisticated robots that can recognize and participate in human speech. The goal of OpenAI is to build a robot which can go beyond noting down timings for various appointments and engaging in translations. It should be able to speak on an extempore basis and decipher written text. Also it ought to be able to navigate its way through a conundrum via questioning.
OpenAI seeks its impetus from Google’s DeepMind which built robots that beat champions at the game of Go with ease. Now that is the sort of thing which makes history. A game is a sort of a micro-level field that represents the macrolevel world.
A lot goes on in it and for a robot to master a game is a sign that progress has really been made. OpenAI wants to start a living metric which will measure intelligence on several levels. Altman has even said that while machines will spell the doom of mankind, in the small time span we have from here to nowhere, there will be a lot of interesting stuff going on.
