It has been found that the mineral magnesium may play a crucial role in decreasing hypertension.
According to the experts, consuming a magnesium supplement may help lower blood pressure. The subjects in the study that was conducted took magnesium and their blood pressure readings were substantially lower than before.

After a course that lasted approximately 90 days, the effect was visible in the subjects. When you compare this with those individuals who didn’t take any magnesium supplement, the latter did not show this lowering of blood pressure.
This supplement didn’t have any side effects and was economical to boot. Such supplements could be taken as a viable alternative for lowering blood pressure.
Especially in those whose levels of blood pressure had reached dangerously high levels, such supplementation was the only way to go. The researchers surveyed about 34 studies involving over 2000 patients.
The studies were random, placebo-buffered and double-blind to ensure the purest of results. The ones who got placebos and those who got a magnesium supplement didn’t know this. The length of the studies varied from 90 days to half a year in duration.
The subjects took amounts of magnesium that were between 240 milligrams and 960 milligrams. Just by taking 368 mg of magnesium for a period of three months, subjects reduced their systolic blood pressure by 2 mm Hg.
They also reduced their diastolic blood pressure by 1.8 mm Hg. The former is the top reading on the blood pressure apparatus and the latter is the lower reading. Even taking 300 mg of magnesium supplement for a single month’s time span led to a lowering of blood pressure.
The anti-hypertensive effect of magnesium was thus confirmed by the researchers.
The physiological pathways employed by magnesium to solve the blood pressure conundrum were noted down by the researchers. It helps in the vasodilation of the blood vessels.
If the person with high blood pressure doesn’t get enough magnesium in his diet, then taking magnesium supplements is the only way to ensure a stable blood pressure reading.
Therefore those with a magnesium deficiency tend to benefit the most from supplementation. Those participants in the study that stayed the course of the treatment tended to gain the most in terms of salubrious health benefits.
