Orion Labs Launches Onyx Smart Walkie-Talkie on Amazon LaunchPad

The Orion Labs Onyx works like a Star Trek communicator badge. Touch and talk via your smartphone with your friends, family or co-workers.

Orion Labs today announces that their smart walkie-talkie Onyx is now available for pre-order at Amazon LaunchPad. Onyx is shaped like a button. When you tap it you can talk. The connection is made via Bluetooth to your smartphone in your pocket. The Onyx Labs app manages the one-to-one or group communication.

“Onyx makes communicating so much easier, allowing people to focus on what’s going on around them instead of getting buried in their phone screen. We believe that Onyx is the first wearable of its kind, putting the power of voice communication in a small, stylish device, and we’re delighted to be able to offer it across the US through Amazon LaunchPad,” said Jesse Robbins, founder and CEO of Orion Labs.

Onyx is available now for pre-order on Amazon LaunchPad with the first products expected to ship later this summer. Normally priced at $279.99 for a 2 pack and free shipping, Onyx is currently on special offer for pre-orders at $249.99 for a 2 pack and free shipping.

The price is considerably high despite the discount. We have a question into the company, why a walkie-talkie button costs $125. If it would have LTE inside and would be usable without a smartphone, then the price would be fine, but as a Bluetooth accessory it seems too expensive.

The Orion Labs Onyx is available on Amazon here.
