Star Trek Beyond praised as a sequel and does better with critics as a potential sequel that could have gone wrong.
In the year where sequels are bombing one after the other, it is great to live up to the critics’ and audience’s expectations. One of the pivotal points in any film’s success is of course the critical reception of the film. Many might not admit it but in truth, most people are looking towards the critical reviews of the movies to decide whether they want to watch it or not. Some movies like Marvel’s movies and Disney and Pixar animated movies are too big to be brought down by these critics but then again most of the critics have good things to say about these movies.

This year, many critics have picked apart the likes of Batman vs. Superman, TMNT 2 and other sequels which has ended in very bad box office weekends for most sequels. Many critics have blamed that the expectations were too high from the original movie that the sequel failed to deliver on the promise shown by the first.
The stakes were also high for this month’s release of Star Trek Beyond. The third film in the franchise after the sequel Star Trek Into Darkness. The sequel opened to great critical reviews but failed to connect to the audience which is why it can be considered somewhat of a box office fail. The characters were trumped for the sake of the story and the action sequences were not inspiring enough to win favors.
These are all key points that the new movie direction Justin Lin seems to have taken into account while filming the third part. Star Trek Beyond seemed like the redemption of Lin and the franchise from their critics fail. Lin has been associated with the Fast and the Furious franchise before this. He has been called to overdo the action of the movie at the expense of storytelling part.
He seemed to have concentrated on making every character in Star Trek Beyond pop. The critics are praising the graphic material of the film. The ships in Beyond are bigger, shinier and have more features which make them ultra-cool to see as an audience according to the critics. The storyline also seems to be going in a good direction when Kirk tries to find his place and connect with his team and crew.
Supported with excellent performances by Chris Pine. Pine has been praised for a charismatic and a somewhat humanly performance in the movie. Zachary Quinto has been said to have grown into his role. Lin has captured the intelligence and the innocence of the character in the movie as he comes to terms with the death of his future self. Idris Elba’s performance as the villain Krail has also been praised.
