Researchers Develop First Vaccine for STI Chlamydia
  • Experts create the First Functional Vaccine for the insidious sexual transmitted infection (STI) Chlamydia

The experts have created the first functional vaccine for the STI known as chlamydia. It is hoped this will put an end to this scourge among sexually transmitted diseases.

Chlamydia is an insidious sexual transmitted infection (STI). It is very insidious in its nature and has a number of deleterious effects on the human organism once it is caught. Scientists have managed to make the first vaccine that will end the disease.

While the disease that is chlamydia does not show many symptoms, that does not mean it is not there. So a vaccine is something that will nip this evil in the bud.

113 million people catch it each year on a global level. The result is often infertility. A study regarding this STD was published in a journal recently. A new chlymadial antigen known as BD584 happens to be a very good vaccine agent.

The commonest form of chlamydia is Chlamydia trachomatis. Since most of the cases of this disease are asymptomatic, they often go untreated.

Among some of the far-reaching effects of this disease are: upper genital tract infections, pelvic inflammatory disease and as mentioned earlier...infertility.

A vaccine would be the most beneficial thing in the world for those who fear contracting this malady. The past 30 years have shown no signs of progress in matters of a vaccine.

Thanks to the study, new antigens have been discovered that will ensure that chlamydia becomes a thing of the past. The fact that reproductive damage is done by this infection means that finding a vaccine is of the utmost importance.

BD584 was able to reduce chlamydial shedding by a whopping 95%. It also slashed rates of hydrosalpinx. This latter issue includes the blocking of the fallopian tubes with serous fluid.

The results that have accumulated so far look very good. The vaccine which has almost been made is not only very effective against chlamydia but it also protects against other strains of the STI.

Trachoma, which is an eye infection, also occurs due to chlamydia infections. It is a cause of blindness which can be prevented if spotted early onwards in its inception. The chlamydia vaccine could in fact be administered through the nose.

This is a fairly easy method and it causes no pain either. The solution to chlamydia is economical to boot. This disease has probably seen its last chance of spreading among the human denizens of earth. Soon it will have gone the way of other infectious diseases.

This study will get published on July 25.
