NASA Captures Rocket Propulsion Test With New HDR Stereo X Camera

NASA recently performed a booster test of the SLS with its new HDR camera thereby recording each tiny detail with precision and acumen. NASA’s New HDR Camera Records With Unprecedented Detail

NASA had a full-fledged test run of its booster rocket. This was a part of the SLS or Space Launch System. Also the novel HDR camera was used to capture the most intricate details. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range.

It is a revolutionary high-speed camera which is purpose-built to aid space scientists in filming rocket tests. These video clips are normally difficult to capture without totally cutting down the exposure settings, yet with this camera, they are a possibility.  

In ordinary circumstances, video cameras record through the usage of one exposure at a single moment. Yet this new HDR camera records many slow motion video exposures at one and the same time. It mixes them into images that perfectly show all areas of the scene.

This camera was road-tested on a small rocket with plumes of exhaust coming from its nozzle. The SLS booster test provided NASA with a chance to gauge the performance of this camera in a full-scale milieu. 

The SLS is a very potent rocket that will take astronauts into the very core of deep space. It is a dynamic invention of NASA. The boosters on this rocket are full of force and once they are into ignition mode, they cannot be switched off or restarted.

The camera caught the images as they began to roll just moments after ignition. Many seconds of the two-minute long test were caught in crystal clarity by the HDR camera.

Then the power source was turned off. When the experts saw the results of the camera after the test run, they found things they had never seen before. It was a remarkable footage that showed everything in virtual relief. 

The exhaust plume, nozzle and nozzle fabric went through their usual patterns. This was to be expected but such fine details in videography were hardly ever thought to come out into the open. It was indeed a modern day miracle.

Even in slow motion such finesse in footage is hardly ever seen which makes this experiment a success par excellence. A second prototype of this novel HDR camera is in the pipeline. It will be even more streamlined and fine-tuned to the point where the high dynamic range qualities seem to make the images pop right out of the imagery.
