Is Rimac Leaping Koenigsegg?
Rimac Concept_One

A Croatian car startup created an all-electric hypercar that rivals an possibly even leaps current hypercars made by big brands and smaller established hypercar outfits like Koenigsegg.

The other day I watched "Apex: The story of the Hypercar" on Netflix. The documentary should have somehow "Koenigsegg" in the title as its mostly about Christian Von Koenigsegg journey to build the Koengisegg One:1. Apex still shows many other hypercars including the Porsche Spyder 918, Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren, Pagani hypercars.

The Rimac destroyed a LaFerrari in a quarter-mile race last week. In my mind the hypercars featured in the Apex documentary including the Koengisegg One:1 look dated. Not only is the Rimac Concept_One all-electric, it looks incredibly good. The Koengisegg cars have this race car design language that I don't find appealing. The Rimac looks like a sophisiticated Italian designed beauty. Even compared to the LaFerrari, the Rimac looks much more refined and bolder.

How can a small company from Croatia pull off such a car? I think it is time to shoot Apex 2, the story of Rimac.

The found of Rimac Automobili posted a short video recently showing the Rimac Concept_One accelerate from 0 to 100km/h (0-60mph) in 2.6s.

While that indicator is not saying everything about a car, a lap time around the Nurburg Ring in Germany would. The problem is that the Nurburg Ring managing company decided to ban car companies from attempting to set new lap records in response to accidents. This might change again at the end of the year. The Porsche 918 set the current record and it is set to hold for eternity if the Nurburg Ring does not allow new attempts for the 13 mile distance. Porsche has and is using the record time (6 minutes and 57 seconds) relentlessly in marketing.

I would love to see the Rimac Concept_One and the Koenigsegg One:1 battle it out on the Nurburg Ring.

Officially introduced at the Geneva Motor Show 2016 in March, the Rimac Concept_One is getting more and more attention. The innovative hypercar has four electric motors with a maximum power of 1088PS (800kW). The battery pack is massive, delivering 1 Mega Watt of power with 8,450 battery cells. The battery is also able to absorb 400kW during braking.

The hand-made car is using a high-tech All Wheel Torque Vectoring system to get the power onto the street. The All Wheel Torque Vectoring system has been put to the test at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race and in 2015 the Rimac beat all combustion engine powered cars.

The Rimac Concept_One has reportedly a $980,000 price-tag. The first car has shipped to an American customer according to a blog post last week.

The Rimac Concept_One is at the the Pebble Beach car week and should off its off-roading abilities. The car has a hydraulic suspension, that enables it to change the ride height. It was enough to get up this wood-chipped hill. Watch the video below.
