A few months ago, the online community was abuzz with a very popular Kickstarter that was sure to combine some of our favorite things: games, great animation, and a scary story. Through the Woods by Antagonist is a third person horror game that follows a sad mother who is searching for her missing son. The game is different from the typical first person games that we are used to playing, giving the player complete control of their surroundings as they venture throughout the forest. Not only does that make it more exciting, it will probably make it more fun to play as well - especially for people who play a lot of game.

Many people donated to the Kickstarter because they believed in the story and wanted something that felt entirely new.

The team was inspired by visits they took as children to a forest. When you were younger, you probably remember all of the psychological things that went into going deep into a forest, so the game will likely play on that. The game is set in Norway, where the team is from.

When playing, the main character (who you'd play as) is Karen, the mother who has lost her son. She is getting interrogate about what happens, and the story unfolds as she explains what happens. There is a heavy-handed Norse mythology overtone and there are some Norwegian folk tales woven throughout. There are very few, if any, "jump scares" and instead, the scares are story based.

Th game is rather dark, because it takes place at night with only a single flashlight and the moon. Take a look at the trailer below for a look at which direction the story is going:

The game is slated to be released in October 2016, just in time for Halloween.
