Update Live at Bits & Pretzels 2016:
Don't Miss: MWC 2017 Highlights
We are live from Bits & Pretzels 2016. Kevin Spacey will take to the stage in about 30 minutes. The Hollywood star definitely got everybody out of bed early. It was almost a stampede when the doors opened as attendees tried to get a front seat. It is not clear yet what Kevin Spacey's speech will bring. Usually all speakers have to wear traditional Bavarian lederhosn. Let's see if Kevin Spacey plays along with that.
Kevin Spacey kicked off his speech as Frank Underwood from his hit series House of Cards. He than praised the show impersonating Bill Clinton. He owned the room within seconds. Really amazing to see him live.
After the entertainment part of Spacey's speech he went into story telling. He shared his story of how he got into acting as a teenager and how the amazing Hollywood legend Jack became his mentor and friend. From that insight into his life, Kevin Spacey talked about how technology can be used to tell stories in many different ways now.
He spent some time talking about virtual reality quite a bit. He sees huge potential of virtual reality changing not just entertainment, but also the world. VR enables people to experience what it is like to be someone else. This could lead to a better understanding in many different aspects of life.
One his recommendations to the attendees at the end of his speech is that only drinking beer will not keep them hydrated during the event. Drink water too! I go have a beer now. There is a beer bar open already all morning - Bits & Pretzels is a true Bavarian event.
Note: Kevin Spacey did not wear a lederhosn.
Kevin Spacey will open the Bits & Pretzels event tomorrow, Sunday. I will be there reporting from his keynote. Taking photos and recording video of Spacey's speech are prohibited. There will be one official photo of him at the stage of Bits & Pretzels.
Sir Richard Branson is confirmed despite his recent accident to appear at the Bits & Pretzels conference on Monday. He does not mind to be photographed. Come back to I4U News on Sunday to read about the Bits & Pretzels 2016 highlights as they happen. The show has sold out, which means that this Munich startup festival will be gathering of 5,000 entrepreneurs, investors and a few journalists.
Kevin Spacey is a tech investor himself and will give a 30 minute speech for founders followed by a 15 minute Q&A session. Spacey will be on stage for the opening keynote on the first day of the event on September 25 at the International Congress Center in Munich.
Kevin Spacey gained popularity with films like The Usual Suspects, Se7en, LA Confidential and American Beauty. With two Academy Awards, eleven years as Artistic Director of the legendary Old Vic theatre and countless other awards, Spacey’s turn to TV in 2013 garnered him legions of new fans. He inhabits the character of Congressman Frank Underwood on Netflix’s first original series, House of Cards. For his role Spacey has won Golden Globe and SAG awards, and is nominated again this year for an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series. For his services to theatre, the arts and international culture, Spacey recently received an honorary Knighthood from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth.
Kevin Spacey is an active investor in many technology companies. He is a highly sought after speaker that has mesmerized audiences at tech conferences all over the world, including the World Economic Forum at Davos, where he spoke this year about the art of storytelling and its role in the future of technology.
I have been at last year's Bits & Pretzels and it looks like this year will be on a whole other level. I'm totally looking forward to see and hear Kevin Spacey and Sir Richard Branson talk live.
