Wednesday next week will have a major impact on the Holiday shopping season.

Use the long Labor Day 2016 weekend to relax and charge up energy. On Wednesday Apple and Sony will host major media events announcing new products that will shape Black Friday 2016 and the Holiday season. Consumers have a certain budget for the Holidays. Apple and Sony are going to announce must have items that will not be cheap, locking in a hefty portion of the Holiday spending.

Apple will announce the iPhone 7 on September 7 at 10am PDT. While there is still a discussion about how attractive an upgrade the iPhone 7 is, the new iPhone will make the list of most wanted Holiday gifts. Besides the iPhone 7, Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch 2. The new Apple Watch is reportedly adding GPS and a Barometer for altitude tracking. The original Apple Watch was a popular holiday gift item last year and will be even more so this year. This time Apple is releasing the Apple Watch in time for the Holiday season and not in Spring.

The new Apple Watch will be a brand new product in the Holiday season and a sound investment with at least one year time until the Apple Watch 3 with LTE comes around.

There is no 3.5mm audio jack on the new iPhone 7, making new headphones with lightning port and wireless headphones a big seller this holiday shopping season. Apple wants to have a piece of that and is reportedly announcing new Beats headphones also on September 7.

If Apple's new products would not be enough for one day, Sony has scheduled a PlayStation event on the same day. The Sony PlayStation event begins at 3pm ET. So there is time to grab lunch between the Apple media event and the Sony media event, both are streaming live online.

Sony is expected to unveil the new more powerful Sony PlayStation Neo in the Wednesday event. Depending what this new console will offer, Sony fans will shift their budgets to upgrade. Sony will also unveil the already leaked Sony PlayStation 4 Slim next week. The new PS4 Slim will likely have a lower price than the current PS4. We expect it to be announced for $299.

The Sony PlayStation event will also be about the PS VR. Sony's virtual reality offering is expected to take over the virtual reality segment this Holiday season and push the much more expensive Oculus Rift and HTC Vive to the sidelines. Microsoft has nothing to counter Sony's VR solution.

We expect that the Xbox One ($249) and Xbox One S ($299) will be offered as ultra bargains in Black Friday 2016 sales. Price is the only weapon Microsoft has left to compete with the more popular Sony PlayStation this season.

There is still no certainty that the new Sony PlayStation Neo will launch this Fall. We will find out on Wednesday.
