The new Pokemon Go app update has been announced on Saturday.
Niantic announced Pokemon Go app 0.37.0 for Android and Pokemon Go App 1.7.0 for iOS on Saturday. Many Android users reported that they can download the new Pokemon Go app with Buddy Pokemon from the Google Play store. There are though now many comments in social media of Android users in the US, Europe and elsewhere that they still can't get the Pokemon Go app 0.37.0. It appears the roll out as slowed down or even stopped.
Google Play is rolling out gradually to Google Play users, not necessarily by region. The Pokemon Go 1.7.0 update for iOS is not yet released at all.
Android users have the venue of installing the Pokemon Go 0.37.0 APK directly. The file has been made available on APK mirror sites right after the release. iOS users are stuck waiting for the iTunes store to release the 1.7.0 release.
It reason for the slow roll out could be bugs. We just do not know at this point. Niantic has a bad start with communications. Now they are updating the trainer community regularly with updates on upcoming features. What is missing now is guidance on specific release times. This might not be as easy, as Niantic depends on Google and Apple to get the update live in the respective app store.
If the new Pokemon Go updates are not fully rolling out today, Niantic needs to act and update the trainer community.
Those who can use the new Pokemon Go Buddy feature have already discovered an Easter egg. Walking Pikachu for 10km makes him change from the ground to your shoulder. There might be more Easter eggs hidden in the new Pokemon Buddy feature.
There is another "dark" feature in the new Pokemon Go app release. Niantic prevents the new Pokemon App to run on rooted or jailbroken devices. This has raised a shit storm in the huge rooted Android community. There are though several work arounds available to run the new Pokemon Go app on rooted Android devices. Using the Xposed Framework with the RootCloak Module appears to be the easiest method.
The new Pokemon Go update also supports the Pokemon Go Plus device, that will be released on Friday.
Despite the decreasing hype, the Pokemon Go game has been downloaded 500 million times so far. The AR game is the fastest mobile game ever to reach that milestone. The story of Pokemon Go has just begun.
