If you look around online, you may have heard the numerous rumors that Nintendo's next gaming machine NX, being both a console and a handheld game. Now, we've got a quote from Pokemon CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara in today’s Wall Street Journal:
Don't Miss: Super Bowl 2017 Commercials & Advertisers
“The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a hand-held device,” he told the paper in an interview, while confirming that his company will make games for it.
Nintendo said that the NX will be released in March 2017, but they have yet to announce anything else other than saying that there will be a version of the upcoming Wii U game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. They haven't even said if it will be a console or a handheld.
It is possible that Ishihara doesn't really have any inside information, but it is safe to bet that he does.
Both the 3DS and the Wii U appear to be ready to move on, so it is likely the NX will replace both of them.
A hybrid machine could change everything, including the nature of Pokemon's releases, which is bound to increase after the success of Pokemon Go and the increased interest in Pokemon merchandise.
While we don't know what the future will hold for Nintendo or the NX, it looks like it could be something interesting.
