The revolutionary concept of I.D by VW has been revealed this year at the Paris International Motor Show. The I.D. concept car is the first Volkswagen of a new fleet of electric cars and it demonstrates a fully automated mode for the year 2025.
The I.D Concept car is supposed to be the first ever car made by Volkswagen that will cater the technology of Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB). The car is supposed to go on sale by the year 2020. Volkswagen is claiming that this electric car will have a range of 373 miles which is a dream come true for EV lovers.
Dr Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Board of Management Volkswagen Brand explained, "In 2020 we will begin to introduce an entire family of electric vehicles on the market. All of them will be based on a new vehicle architecture which was specially and exclusively developed for all-electric vehicles. Not for combustion engine or plug-in hybrid vehicles. The I.D. stands for this new era of all-electric vehicles, for a new automotive era: electrical, connected and autonomously driving."
I.D will be the first Volkswagen to be included in the fleet of MEB vehicles. These are also being considered as highly innovative vehicles. These will be one hundred percent zero emission vehicles, thanks to the new technology used in them.
With a horsepower of 168bhp these are supposed to provide an exciting mileage and range of 249 to 273 miles in a single battery charge. This is a great figure to achieve by any company till now.
The concept that was introduced in Paris Motor Show this week showed the fully automated driving of these cars. VW is considering this mode to be a permanent feature of its electric vehicles by the year 2025.
It will showcase multi-function steering wheel retracts into a dash pad that will be totally automated. Volkswagen had recently set a goal of selling one million EVs by the year 2025 and this car is going to be the part of plan too.
The car is supposed to provide efficiency while taking a drive in it along with providing space and comfort to the passengers too. The car is supposed to have a long wheelbase and short overhangs.
This EV will be using a lithium-ion battery that is going to be integrated in the floor of car thus providing more space and leg room. It will also provide an ideal axle and weigh distribution due to the battery being in the center.
