The Wikileaks platform is celebrating its 10th anniversary today, October 4. Update: Live stream of WikiLeaks 10 year anniversary press-conference ended.
The controversial leaking platform WikiLeaks is celebrating its 10th anniversary today with an event in Berlin. The WikiLeaks 10 years event will kick off at 10am CET (4am ET). The highlight of the event is an appearance of Julian Assange from his London hide away at 11am CET.
Initially Julian Assange was supposed to speak on Tuesday from the balcony of the Ecuadorian embassy. Wikileaks said on Twitter: "London speech by Assange has been moved to Berlin due to specific information." At this point we do not know if WikiLeaks is using the event in Berlin to drop a surprise leak. The stage is set for new big leak and the cryptic tweet about "specific information" supports that expectation.
Donald Trump supporters hope for a damaging leak concerning Hillary Clinton.
Juliane Assange disappointed a lot of people in his live video appearance at the Wikileaks 10th anniversary event. There are no leaks today, but he says there will be a big leak that implies three organizations coming still this year. Specifically Assange says to be leaking every week for the next 10 weeks. This means that the supposedly damaging documents will be released ahead of the US Presidential election.
Assange said: "The documents themselves are revealing, but also the government/state reactions to the releases are revealing also." He did not specify which organizations or persons will be involved.
Wikileaks is in the process building up its defenses ahead of the release. They are looking for wider distribution of leaked documents and more media supporters. A new so called WikiLeaks Task Force has been created that can be joined on Twitter under @WLTaskForce.
The #OctoberSurprise has not happened and maybe will not happen at all this month. Americans who stayed up late for the Assange's speech are not happy and release their anger on Twitter. #OctoberSurprise is the #1 trending hashtag in the US followed by #wikileaks.
45-year-old Julian Assange is in the Ecuadorian embassy since four years. He is still wanted in Sweden in connection with a sexual assault case. The main risk for Assange is though an extradition to the United States, where he faces charges for the WikiLeaks activities.
The agenda of the WikiLeaks event is featuring a look back at the 10 greatest hits of WikiLeaks including the Guantanamo files, Iraq and Afghanistan War Logs, Minton Report, and the Democratic National Committee leaks.
WikiLeaks also will present the top 10 leaks specific to Germany including the NSA Intercepts of Angel Merkel.
