It was great to see that stardom did not keep her from protesting against the new Dakota Access Pipeline project which is being protested by the Native American population and people of the area.
The Pipeline will have serious effect on the environment and moreover, the project will desecrate historically significant Native American tribal lands.
Standing Rock Sioux has been trying to protest and take legal action against the project. After their case was turned down in court, the organization staged a protest in North Dakota site.
Shailene went out to participate in the peaceful protest. She was recording the whole ordeal on Facebook Live. She told her followers that the protest was taking place on the National Indigenous Day which was disgusting.
She then reported that the riot police was there and we could see the police and State Troopers coming down on the protestors. Shailene reported that they were armed with guns, batons and zip ties.
She detailed that they had been asked to go back and just as she was making her way back to her van, she was intercepted by awaiting cops and arrested for 2 misdemeanors including engaging in a riot and trespassing.
Shailene asked why she was being arrested and the cops replied that she had been identified. Shailene said that she was being arrested because she was known and she had a fan following who were looking at the whole scenario via her.
She was put in the Morton County Jail in North Dakota from which she was ultimately released, according to E! News.
Her arrest was recorded on Facebook Live and an outpouring of support and prayers from her followers came through. Shailene thanked her supporters and requested that they all focus on the Pipeline which threatened to destroy the Native American heritage.
