Even in the race car category it seems the end of combustion engine cars is near.
It was not long ago when the new production house Rimac introduced its Concept One. The 2 seat concept of Rimac Concept One is produced in house and only a month ago we saw the first one shipped into the US.

So what happens when we pit this advanced electric supercar against a traditional engine supercar like the Porsche 918 Spyder? First off let us take a deeper look at both cars.
Rimac Concept One; the single electric motor car equipped with four engines has an ability to generate more than 1073bhp and 1180lb of torque. With such engineering on four wheels the EV was found to have a 0-62mph time of just 2.6sec, while its top speed was recorded at 221mph.
While on the other hand the Porsche 918 Spyder also boasts a 2.6sec 0-62mph time, with only 875bhp from its 4593cc. Basically we can say the naturally aspirated V8 engine and two electric motors of the Porsche is similar in intensity to the Rimac.
To find out if which one is better; petrol power or electric hybrid power, a race was held at the Milan Dragway in Michigan. Before the race started Mate Rimac the founder and CEO of Rimac stated they may break some record here today. But even he could not have anticipated the end result.
Rimac won against the Porsche with a sub-9.9 second time. Even though the Porsche Spyder has a slightly faster listing at a 9.8 second quarter mile, in this race Rimac was the first to reach the end line.
In a nutshell the Crotian startup Rimac has the potential to take on the might of the powerful Porsche even with its electric engine. It makes one wonder about how far electric cars have come from being just concepts upon papers.
