Lite-On announced that it has launched a new 4X Blu-ray writer in Europe called the DH-4B1S. The new drive is the follow up to the LH-2B1S Blu-ray writer, one of the first Blu-ray writers on the market. The new drive can write BD-R media at 4X and has a 50% faster speed compared to the previous writer.

The new drive uses a constant linear velocity writing strategy allowing for the transfer of data at 18 MB per second during the write session. Lite-On says that the faster 6X drives on the market only hit 6X at the end of the session and start off at slower speeds.
Lite-On says this fact will make a 4X speed burner faster than a 6X speed burner if you aren’t using the entire Blu-ray disc capacity. The DH-4B1S will be available across Europe at the end of May at an unspecified price.
