id Software announced that development of Doom 4 has started. The interest in Doom 4 is apparently overwhelming the id Software web server and it is unavailable right now.

There are no specific details available on Doom 4. id Software just says they have formed the team and hired a new developer for Doom 4.
Doom was pioneering first person shooter games and has been a major influence on virtual world video games. Maybe Doom 4 has it what it takes to beat the sales record from GTA IV.
