Eurogamer reports that GTA IV has sold 8.5 million units between April 29th and May 31st and that total shipments at this time are 11 million. The game helped push Take-Two profits to $98.2 million USD. Gross sales of the game have been $500 million USD to date.

That figure makes the hottest movies so far this summer green with envy. Eurogamer says that the downloadable content for the game has been postponed to a November to January time frame.

Despite the wild success of the GTA IV game it still has a way to go before it beats its predecessor San Andreas which moved 9.43 million units in the US alone. These numbers surely won’t make Jack Thompson happy.
