The BlackBerry Storm had a bumpy start, but still sold very well. SlashGear reports that sources told them that Verizon has given RIM the go ahead to release the BlackBerry Storm 2 in September, sporting most notably Wi-Fi.
RIM surprised investors (Q4 Earnings) earlier this month with stellar numbers for the last quarter. RIM also has given a rather positive outlook for this quarter.
RIM shipped approximately 7.8 million devices in the fourth quarter and approximately 26 million devices during fiscal 2009. Approximately 3.9 million net new BlackBerry subscriber accounts were added in the quarter. At the end of the quarter, the total BlackBerry subscriber account base was approximately 25 million.
The new BlackBerry Storm 2 would arrive after the new iPhone 2009 that is seen to be released in June. Also by then the Palm Pre will be on the market. Despite the harsh economy there is quite some dynamic in the smartphone market - I like it.
