Nikon D80 is I4U Top 100 Holiday Gift Guide Tip #19

The Nikon D80 is one of the most popular DSLR cameras that Nikon offers thanks to its great performance and features. The D80 may be overshadowed by the newer Nikon D90 for cutting edge specifications and features, but the D80 is a fantastic DSLR. The camera uses a 10-megapixel image sensor.

I have used a D80 for the last year exclusively and in daily use, it is a great camera. The D80 has fantastic battery life; I have shot thousands of full resolution images on one battery charge on many occasions. The camera lacks in body image stabilization and has no Live View LCD, but is a fantastic product overall. With the D90 now on the market, the D80 will likely come down in price as well.

For Whom:

The digital photographer looking to step up to a DSLR from a point-and-shoot should give serious consideration to the D80.

The Good:

  • Great features
  • Fantastic battery life
  • Great image quality

The Bad:

  • No video record mode
  • No Live View LCD
