Video Games Outsell DVD and Blu-ray

It's a good time to be in the game publishing world as video games are now outselling movies and DVDs. The data comes by way of Media Control GfK International. According to the firm game sales were up by 20% in 2008.

Total game sales reached $32 billion USD, mainly thanks to the massive success of the Nintendo Wii. Combined DVD and Blu-ray sales were down by 6% according to the firm's calculations.

Sales for DVD and Blu-ray films were $29 billion USD, $3 billion behind video game sales. Game sales are predicted to account for 57% of packaged media sales in 2009. In 2007, games were 53% of packaged media sales.
