Sony has announced a new energy efficient Bravia WE5 Eco TV for the UK market. The new set has a 1080p resolution on screen sizes of 40-inches and 46-inches. The sets use the world's first micro-tubular HCFL backlight that cuts power consumption by more than 50%.

The sets also use a Smart Presence Sensor to switch the picture off when the TV is not being watched. When in energy conservation mode the TV uses no power at all. Sony says that the set consumes 20-30% less power than its last year Bravia range.
The energy Saving Switch is a switch that can be flipped and turns the set into a zero energy-consuming device. Other TVs consume a little power even when turned off. The set also features Sony's MotionFlow 100Hz technology.
