Sky has followed in the footsteps of the American satellite firm DirecTV and announced a new iPhone application that allows Sky+HD DVR owners to set DVR recordings with the iPhone remotely.

That means if you forget to set the football game to record, you can do it from the office or local pub. The application provides access to the 7-day programming guide and sorts programs by name, date, and time.

The application is free but requires a sign-up for a Sky Remote Record service account on the Sky website. Sky isn't clear on if the application will work over 3G and Wi-Fi networks or Wi-Fi alone.
